I used to have this argument with an old friend...Which version of Creep is better? STP or Radiohead? I never really "got" Radiohead's version until long after I lost touch with the old friend who for years insisted that Radiohead's version was miles beyond STP's. I admit, I was attached to the nostalgia of the STP version I remembered from my teens. But I get it now.

Here's my version. I'm going to have to redo this one though. It doesn't sit like it should. It needed to sink in a little more. I'm learning to accompany myself on piano with a little more finesse. This is live - no edits. I apologize for my sniffling. I have a cold. To be continued...

Unfortunately, i was one of the army of UK kids who found Radiohead at the time and "got" it, so i am quite attached to the song (although less so than the rest of the Pablo Honey album. Great record, go and buy it now!). With that in mind;

I like your version; it's sparse, it's slightly haunting, great voice, simple piano that gives the song loads of space and breath. I have only two points i'd like to raise.

1) the radio version of Creep sucked the life and the point out of it. Swearing isn't big and clever but when it's right, it's right. So, either, the "so very special" needs to have some real venom and sarcasm in it, or just say "Fucking" like Thom Yorke intended.

2) the hardest thing with this song is the feel and meaning. You really need to put yourself into thom's shoes to really see where he's coming from. Imagine being an socially awkward, nerdy, cynical guy in the 90's trying to build any kind of relationship with the fairer sex. Constantly being judged and pushed away because people don't want to know you and won't take the time to realise that, beneath your oddball exterior, is someone who they could love. Surely we've all been in the same situation; you find someone who means the world to you but they barely acknowledge your existence. It needs to feel bitter, hollow, slightly tongue in cheek. it's not a "sad" song, it's a desperate & angsty song.

anyway, other than that, it's good :)

Something that doesn't happen often to me; chills on my neck. Whatever causes that, is usually something special. You did that here for a bit.

I hear what Just is saying though, there is some more that could be given here emotionally. Give it some geek emotion! :)

That's awesome actually!

This homeless guy gets the emotion, but he doesn't have the voice to make it work for me.

Maybe go sleep outside for a day Nika! LOL!

Sorry, I'm drinking today. :)

This was me feeling at odds with the world...The special ones being those who "belong," those who are accepted for being agreeable. For me, it is a sad song. A lonely song. I need to revisit this when feeling different feels empowering and embittered rather than isolating and see what comes out.

Thanks for the critique <3

I love these boards :)

Pablo Honey is OK Creep is great by RHead but I'm not fond of STP. The solo acoustic version of Creep that came as a bonus with My Iron Lung was pretty fabbo too. Not unlike this cover but with Thom's angsty vocal ,more aggressive/passive - a touch of the Nirvana Piano Forte.
Your version is perfect for those who accept their low self esteem as their just desert. A song that originally was, by my interpretation, about self loathing as well as hatred for & kicking against the circumstance is also a song about passivity, the sniffles add to the theme by the way. I think the natural tendency to whine in the song needs a little explosive edge added no matter how limited, fruitless, trunkated.
You did a lovely job.

Another great performance... Gave me goosebumps! I only wish I could play piano and sing as well! Alas...

sounds great!

I wouldnt say goosebumps, but it was very very good.

In my opinion Radiohead>STP

Your version is pretty cool too. Definitely a nice touch of playing it with piano rather than guitar like the original. Also glad to hear that you sang the uncensored version. :thumbs up:
