OK I just had the worlds most random idea, and it wont be long before this thread is on page 9, but hows about this.

We do a little "experiment". Everyone records ONE track, using whatever instrument they want, including voice. It should last about 60 seconds long. The important thing is not to listen or hear anyone elses. Then, at the end of it all, they are put together in a 60 second time frame, and we a get an interesting almost random piece of music, the texture changing as we go along, with loads of different noises. Would be kinda cool, experimental music. OK so its random, but why not :D

lol..... errrrrr.... :)

Well I mean it would just be random, doesnt matter about mistakes. Would take up about 3 minutes of your time :D

We could call it the Sonic Turd, although I'm sure it would sound no better than a big fart. Funny - Come to think of it that's how most of my stuff sounds. ;) :D

I would think you might want to impose at least some other parameters - perhaps a key signature and beats per minute - unless you really are going for total cacophony. You gonna do the mixdown on this nasty beast?? Talk about an instant migraine... ouch.

lol. well it only just came into my head. it seemed good at the TIME ;) anyway. hows about this.

Split the people into sections

Section A: Fade in 1-5, play 5-15, fade out 15-20
Section B: Fade in 15-20, play 20-30, fade out 30-35
Section C: Fade in 30-35, play 35-45, fade out 45-50

and so on. Thus, we dont get ALL at once, but a moving piece of work. :D

thats the beginnings of a VERY interesting idea......

Maybe a "pass it on" kinda thing. First person records 30 seconds or so and then sends it to the next person... You get the idea. Everybody adds something.

Maybe it could be called "The Home Recorded Collage" or something ... hmmm...

Sounds kind of cool.

Something like that. I dunno. Got any thoughts? It would basically be a huge pile of good music, sounding bad. lol

Well it seems to be semi-positive responses by everyone. I think we need one "great" factor, and someone who is good enough a leader to organise it all. It's kinda like a challenge, except all on one piece :D It would be really funny. You could put whatever you want (as long as its suitable), and theres gonna be a lot of conversation about "WHAT WAS THAT?!" and so on. Hope this works out :D

ok.. let's say you are the leader and collect the samples?

Thats really like asking a 3 year old to do a quadratic equation. I couldn't even tell you what format the samples would be in. How to GET them into that format. How to merge them. Ermm :)

ok.. I'll do it.

any sampletype you like, preferably hi-fi Mp3.
I'll merge it too, no problem.

Will be on a festival this weekend, will work on it after that.

You actually like the idea? :D I thought you were being sarcastic.... Anyway... Ok thats cool, we'd better choose how to do it and everything. Must make arrangements. :D

You just work out the artistic part, I'll come back tues/ wednesday, will read the idea, will collect the samples and fix the thing, ok?

Okey dokey. Anyone else wanna help with the idea? :)

I like it!Who gets to mix it/arrange it?It should all be done in wave files.A true sound will be nessesary due to the chaos it will obviously create.A 60 sec ,single track wave should be small enough to E-mail.But,we should have a coupla different themes like bodily functions, natural noises, electronically produced sounds, acoustically produced sounds,non-instrament noises,etc...this way when blending the tracks, the producer can get a better grip on what might sound cool together....or maybe not.Whatever is decided ,I want in.

Hehe ta. You sound like a good person to help organise seeing as no one else want to help me :) If you do, or anyone else does, email me at kitsterw@hotmail.com or just reply here.

I can supply you with some web space for passing around files. Just let me know if you'll need it and I'll set it up.
