I don't want to discourage your love for the Crate, but the "lights" are indeed a couple of orange LEDs, not the tube's elements lighting up...!

well actually if you leave it on for a while, and turn it off, the tubes glow a little bit by themselves, at least in mine

Im borrowing the 212 combo crate blue voodoo from my bro inlaw. He never plays and I was curious how it sounded so i took it home. It sounds horrible. Nothing usable. I may need to change the tubes. It hasn't been played much. I'm not real impressed with it.
