Please help me before i throw my DAW out the window!

I use Acid 5 (registered copy) on an Athlon 64 3200+ (socket 754) DAW that i built last year. OS is Win XP, 1 gig of Corsair platinum XMS RAM (2x512 kit), MSI NEO FIS2R motherboard, western digital 120GB ATA audio drive, western digital 80GB SATA program drive, Enermax 450W PS, Sapphire radeon 7000 32MB video card. soundcard is a delta 66, midi interface is a midiman midisport 2x2 via USB. I've got a project that's just 16 total tracks: 3 MIDI out (muted), 1 MIDI out to a hardware synth, 2 MIDI to a VSTi softsynth (Cyber Free sampler), 6 tracks of beatmapper files (maybe 6 minutes each?), and 4 tracks of looped files.

As I'm working on the live MIDI track, I'm consistently getting crashes when playing back from the end of the piano roll file. So basically, the program closes when i try to playback from *after* the last note of the live MIDI out piano roll. if i restart acid and reopen the project, the ASIO output is no longer available in the "preferences" option, and it defaults to "microsoft sound mapper". this happens regardless of whether i'm using low latency (384 samples) or high latency (1280 samples). the project is mixing at 24 bit, 44.1kHz. there are three FX buses (distortion, verb, and a chain with compression, delay, and LFO filter). pretty much every audio track has volume automation, a few have pan automation, and a couple have FX send automation.

please let me know if you've got any thoughts or experience. i'm dying here! if anyone has a similar setup, i'd really appreciate your input, no matter what it is. I can't imagine that the computer can't handle this, and the fact that ACID isn't acknowledging the ASIO output of the Delta soundcard may be of interest.

Really, I'm so pissed that it's taking all my discipline to not kick the crap out of the computer. the problem is consistently replicable after restarting the computer.

help me before i do something destructive that i'll regret! and thanks in advance for any replies.
