Had a 1/2 off work, so decided to record this 70's country gem by Glenn Campbell...It's called "Rhinestone Cowboy", and I remembered being tortured listening to this over and over on my parents car stereo, so, I guess in a way this is kinda like exorcising the demons of my past :)....
Learned the song over lunch , tracked it and here is my 1st mix...apologies to country fans in advance :p

Holy crap!

That was fun...music sounds great. Vocals sound sinister. You've taken more liberties than usual with this cover which is nice. Love the ending.

I am kind of pissed though...I just saw an A&E Biography show about this guy a few days ago and never really knew anything about him, but I swear to god I was gonna cover this tune after watching the show...you beat me to it!..couldn't possibly follow this one :D!

EDIT: Despite their great fondness for gnome wars, my kids think you're crazy after hearing this one!

Thanks HM! I had not listened to this one in a loong time, so a lot is from memory as far as the "vocals" ...which kinda makes it fun! Actually was kinda challenged into doing this after watching American Idol last night :o...was poking fun at some of the performances, and my country loving buddy said I should try my hand at a country classic if think it's so easy(which I don't):p
....so here it is...
You should still cover it , I bet you would do a great job! Funny 'bout your kids...mine already think I'm pretty wacko!:D
Thanks for your comments bud, appreciate them!!

Like a rum stoned cowboy!
Very late Pistols cover style - & nice for it!
Now - The Gambler?

rum stoned cowboy! :D I like that Ray, would be a great name for a band !
Thanks for the good word !

A headbopper for sure queepy...!

Crash Cymbal seemed a bit bright but the rest of it is mixed good for me.

Glen Campbell will no doubt slap some beyoche when he hears this version!
(He likes to do that I've heard)

This would probably freak em at a gig, "Ladies and Gentlemen - I'm Glen Campbell" followed by this sonic rush....

Good stuff Queepy...

Thanks Ido, he definitely has had his troubles eh?I'm hoping to retrack guitars and get a heavier sound this weekend, as well as the vocals and attempt to reach pitch a little more often :p, also listened to the real tune a few times so have a little better feel for the melody:o....Thanks for checking it out!!

Lol This is awesome queepy! Love it. This stupid song never sounded so good.

Mix sounds edgy and in your face. Like it. If I had to nit anything, I'd say I could use more kick kicking me in the head over and over.

Great job buddy!

Queepy,

Your music is always fun to listen to. Love the guitar solo.

Hey Guitar Zero and Greg, thanks for your comment...unfortunently I've had a bunch of stuff come up and have not been able to get back at it till today...
I attempted a new vocal track for both the lead and backing vocals...and also tried to toughen up the guitar sound and get the drums kickin' a little more....I guess just trying to get a little more muscle to the overall sound.
Here is a link to the new vocal version with hopefully , a more rockin' mix...

Hey , thanks Nak! Yeah, I was trying to go a little Ritchie Blackmore on the whammy bar during the solo there:p...I don't play my strat that often latley, so it's always fun to pick it up after awhile! I will have to check out that winestoned cowboy thing on youtube..sounds funny!

Laughed my head off, Queep...!:D:D:D
I used to be tortured with this song too in my childhood days, damn radio wouldn't stop playing it.....
Great shit-in-your-face version. Love the way you sang it, it really reminds me of Johnny Rotten :p
Great playing and great mix!

Joey :):):)

Yeah man, I remember songs like that one and his other tune called "Southern Nights" , Dolly Partons "9to5", Pablo Cruise, Barry Manilow...ugghh :p.....
Glad ya dug it...was trying for a Johnny Rotten type vocal. Thanks man!

Took me a while to get to this, but I meant to listen to it a while ago.

Awesome version. Vocals are the best I've heard from you on a cover. On key and great 'tude all the way through. I love your covers because you really make them yours, as opposed to just trying to copy the original, which is what I do. :D

Great stuff, Queep.

Hey , thanks a lot Rami...a prop on the vocals makes me feel pretty good coming from someone whos vocals on there recordings I admire! Many times I start out with the intention of doing a cover more faithfully, but my lack of attention span, talent, and free time usually end up with the results like this one :p...
