Just saw Craig An(er)derton ar Sweetwater's Gearfest doing guitar sims demos. He has definate views on the subject.
He flew through his list of favorites which included some Danish/Scandanavian product I had never heard of at the top(and still can't remember the name), but pretty much settled on Guitar Rig as the be-all end-all weapon of choice. I don't know if payola is involved. He also seemed determined to run it as a VST inside Ableton Live rather than stand-alone. Hmm.
He had nothing nice to say about Line6 AT ALL. He must be a customer.
He played a new Gibson robot, equipped with auto tuning and a hex/piezo system which separates individual string signals. Eschuing the fact that he could litterally send an individual string to any source with this axe got him rather excited.
His playing and self-created tones were horrendous at best, although he did mention several times that he had missed a 2am flight and subsequently had not really slept in 24 hours.
