Ive recently got a new pc (P4 2.66, 256mb kingston ram, msi cdrw/dvd drive, on board sound...) and have plans to add a delta 44, more ram and a second hard drive and using it for recording. Problem is, ive ripped a few of my cds onto the pc and on playing back the mp3's i get a crackly pop sound in all the songs, sporadicly. Sometimes theres even a big crackly noise and the song cuts out altogether. Anyone know whats up? I'd blame it on the on-board sound but my p3 500's on board sound managed fine. Oh also it appears i have the same problem on downloaded mp3's.

Whacky.

Try going to control panel -> Sounds and audio -> speaker settings/advanced -> performance

and try turning down the slider.

Also, try going to windows update and see if there's an update for your onboard sound.

Does it only happen to CD's the have been ripped?
Maybe it's your MP3 encoder...
