CPUs: Pentium 4 -vs- AMD

So whats the difference? I'll probably buy a new mobo next year, and I'm starting the research now... I always thought that P4s were the best, is this true? It seems like people are recommending the AMDs in DAWs and I find that sort of surprising. Then again, maybe I have AMDs all wrong.

AMD based systems and CPU's have always been a much better value, and they still are. They give intels a run for the money any day of the week.

I use nothing but AMD, after using Intel for many years. Save a lot of money that way. Best???Well, considering cost, packaging, performance, and support...AMD has my vote. Intel is rumoured to be slightly faster, but I have never seen concrete proof of this.

It used to be true, like 4 or 5 years ago, that the chipset, not the CPU, caused all sorts of problems with various soundcards, and the intel chipsets tended to be more stable than whatever was on the mobos that used AMD CPUs.

I guess that's all gotten sorted out, for the most part, because I don't see people complaining like they use to :confused:
 
AMD runns cooler so less fan noise and a + for a DAW. Intel may be fast at the gigahertz. but getting that processed info to the rest of the PC is another story. AMD says its design can get the info from the processor to memory faster. Intel boasts fast clock, AMD says is its design that makes it faster than pentium even at a slower clock speed.
 
NASA says AMD gets it done faster than Intel and Apple:P
 
I'm an ex AMD addict. I've managed to kick that habbit and I'm now using the hard stuff: INTEL.

To be honest it all comes down to the sum of all the parts in your DAW, not just your CPU. MOBO, Chipset, RAM (size, speed), Hard Drives, how well your PSU can deal with the demand for power and COOLING.....a cooler system is a more stable system
 
Nope, no samples. But that brings up a good point. I am sure that the processor really affects the quality of the recordings and the signal to noise ratio:D
