Hey all!
I was running a i3 dual core 3.6 CPU and after adding plugins over the past few years was experiencing about a nominal CPU load of about 80 percent, and spikes which caused popping on playback. I went from 20 gigs of RAM to 32, and to a i7 4.0 quad core CPU. what a big difference. my CPU load went down to 26 percent. Its amazing!

Processors are also getting a lot more efficient. A 9th gen I7 is about twice as efficient as a 4th gen I7. As long as the keep the socket consistent, you get a nice upgrade path.
