Ok so I'm using an AMD Athlon XP 3200+. When I first built this pc (quite some time ago now) I was getting temperatures in the 40's when idle...
Now its idling at an absolutely stupid 62 degrees C!
The mobo temperature has gone up also, from what was 24 degrees, to what is now on average 30 degrees.
I really don't understand why the hell it would suddenly start doing this. Its been like this for a fair few months now. And its actually starting to piss me off. I have also noticed while using cubase lately that the CPU load is twice as high as it used to be, whilst using the same amount of vst's as before.
Is my CPU on the way out? Does anyone know any testing tools that actually give me some plain english results? I have tried a few diagnostic tools, but they don't seem to tell me much (well they don't tell me anything really, they just run the tests, and thats it).
I have checked airflow, and there doesn't seem to be a problem there. However, even with the side panel taken off it idles at 58. I have taken off the original AMD heatsink, and replaced it with a bigger cooler heatsink (I say cooler because I was using it before a while ago and getting some pretty good results). I'm pretty sure I've seated the heatsink correctly, and applied the thermal goo correctly. Its almost as if my CPU has suddenly become something have the spec of what it is?
Any expert suggestions? I've searched all over for something I have't tried yet but have run out of ideas.
Cheers.
