What is the overheat temperature for a CPU?
When I set my mobo up when building it, it had settings for a warning to sound at certain temps, starting at 122 degrees, on up to 158 degrees, and the a seperate setting for it to shut off when it reaches a certain temp, starting at 140 on up to 167degrees.
I had set everything low just to be safe(alarm at 133,shutdown at 140) it never went off, so I have forgotten about it. Well, since I started using DR-008 lately with a fully loaded drumkit from Hell set, the alarm starts going off.
What is a safe and reasonable temp to push it up to, or am I at it already? Never ever learned that in all my computer classes.
Its an AMD XP, by the way.
I also put another 256mg ram in today, too, that probably contrilbuted to these alarms also.
Peace.

I've learned it's best to stay below 60 degrees Celcius. Check your CPU cooling fan and system cooling fan. Replace it ASAP if needen.

Yeah 60C is a good number. Of course each processor will be different, but so far all processors can withstand temperatures well above that (however a processor reaching 60C should be a rare occurance).

And you'll find it's more common to speak in terms of Celcius when talking CPU temps.

I know it's a different beast but as an example, I have 2 macs. The iMac is cooled by convexity (no fans) and it runs at 55°C. On the other side my Mac G4 has fans and it runs mostly at ambient temperature.
Cheers, Andrés

Macs are a VERY different story. If you were to run any Intel-based processor after the Pentium 1 without a fan for any length of time it would die very quickly.

Or shut off.

Yeah it has the celsius settings right next to the others... I'll go check it out now... thanks guys...
