Can't imagine why it would last for so short a time, even the sleeve type ones will last longer. Have you tried a ball bearing fan? Could try cleaning it every couple months with some compressed air.

My cpu fan has been collapsing on me for several years now.
Every 2-3 months it starts by slowing down and humming and then it stops altoghter.

Till now I havn't cared becuase fans are cheap but this last one has droped dead after 3 weeks and I've had it.

I can only guess it's a power problem. Has any body had a similar problem ?

I'm not a puter wiz but my computer fan broke down three weeks after I unpacked it. It was the one cooling the chip. Is that CPU? Anyway after hasseling with the mfg. it was easier for me to buy new one for $12. They look very dilicate to me. I'm sure it's common for them to go out. After a couple of weeks use the replacement started making funny noises, like it was slipping/slowing. Then the noises stopped and it's been working fine ever since.

Only use ball bearing fans. A decent fan should last a couple years or more, even when it's clogged with dust.

If you hear "farting" noises, then you have cables rubbing against the fan. This will wear on your fan AND the cables. Beware.
