couple quick mixer questions

i was wondering if anyone knows of a place i can get a detailed turtorial on mixers and where all the plugs go etc. I already know about tweakheadz.com but their mixer page left me a little confused. Two things im really confused on is what exactly is a "sub out" and what is "in line monitoring"? help is really appreciated for i am a true nub

Sub-outs are typically grouped sub-mixes that have separate outputs from the mixer (separate from the main and/or monitor outputs). Typically the channel strip will have separate pots and/or pushbuttons which can route the channels input to a given group. "In-line monitoring" I'm not sure about; unless they mean you can monitor the inputs pre-fader or something to that effect.
