Couple of stupid questions

D/L'd the trial version of CEP and I have to say it was easy to use and sounded very good. I found an answer to one of my questions by searching the board (how to move tracks - right click and drag), but I still have one or two.

1. When I hit play, it plays to the end of the VISIBLE track and stops. I have to zoom out until the entire track is visible in order to play the entire track. Is this right? Is there a setting somewhere?

2. Sometimes when I hit play, the program pauses, plays for a second, pauses again, plays for a second, pauses again, and then plays normally. Do I have something set wrong? I never had this trouble with Samplitude and I have a very able P3, 733 with 512 Ram and two large HDs.

3. Last question. The first time I was using the program, I recorded a couple of bars of bass and when I went to stop the recording, it gave me the illegal operation thing. Does this happen often and, again, is it something I have set wrong?

Thanks a lot guys!

1. Yeah, you can change that view setting...look in the help file under "view" or "scroll" and it'll show you how to change that.

2. When it skips like that, it's definitely a CPU problem, but I run ridiculous amounts of tracks on a slower machine, so you've either got too much other crap going on (open applications, spyware programs like "loadqm")....This software's kinda' famous for being able to work pretty well on slow machines, so you shouldn't be having a problem unless you're running a bunch of effects or busses or something.

If you're running Windows, hit "ctrl +alt+delete" one time to see what programs are running in the background right now.

A way to decrease that, btw...adjust the "buffers" in options or settings. The smaller the buffer, the faster the computer will run. Again, try the help file for "buffers."

I'm not a syntrillium/CEP plant or anything; just a huge fan of the software. Always run in 32 bit, and buy it. :D :D

Thanks for the reply Chris -

I shouldn't have much running in the B/G. Heck, I don't even use an Antivirus Prog, but I do use a firewall. Any word on CEP not playing friendly with ZA? I take that back - I got rid of Norton a while back and am now using AVG.

As for other programs, I'm very skeptical and a bit paranoid - they were gone a long time ago. Running msinfo32 (WIN98SE) only yields a few friendlies.

I'll definitely check the buffer settings.

Thanks! I'm leaning toward buying. I've heard that one's quality of sound is obtained prior to the software, but I swear my stuff sounds better in CEP than it did in Samplitude.

Thanks!

You probably already know this, but if you download that FREE program ("Adaware") and run it (takes about 15 minutes on your system I think), you'll probably be shocked at the amount of crap you've accumulated...Not dialers, necessarily, but it bogs the machine down.

Then downsize those buffers :D

Yeah, I seem to recall running this many moons ago. Let's see... version 5.5 is on my PC. I just checked and the newest version is 6.0. Is this the kind of thing you'd want to update, ya think?

You're right, I was shocked when I ran the thing. It found three spy progs.

I haven't had any similar probs the last couple of days. Still getting my feet wet.

Thanks again!
