hey guys, here's a couple songs my band is working on. can you take a listen and let me know what you think?

http://www.glenbishop.com/rg/

not rite has to be remixed when i get the time, levels are pretty wonkey. our gear is pretty budget so quality isnt that great, more looking for what i can do with the mix with the sound i got.

thanks! :)

i liked violated best :)

before i start talking, what did you record on?, is it a live take on two tracks/stereo, or a multitrack recording?

...

me too :)

it was recorded on a yamaha MG-16 mixer into a audiophile 192, then into sonar. mic's were an audix fusion drum mic kit, shure sm-57 on the cab and either the 57 or mxl 603 on the vocal (i like the mxl more). bass was direct. room is pretty shitty, but what can you do when its all that you got for now :P

and it was 2 channels (stereo) into the pc. usually drums/guitar are on seperate left/right tracks at the same time, then everything else recorded in stereo.

thanks for the reply!

kewl, well i asked because the mixing options if it had been a multi-track recording...you understand  Maybe next time.... have the whole band play, but just record the drums, and then dub over....!

Because even though you might have cheap gear, you aren't making the most of it recording in this fashion - now, this is my very personal reflection only, it is easy to lose in performance quality when starting to overdub.

It's a lo-fi garage feel to it, personally i would have preferred a "bigger" sound, maybe i'd have put on a waves reverb on the master, after having compressed it and maybe tweaked a bit with a dynamic filter, in doing so you MIGHT be able to soften the hi-hats and lift the kick and the snare a bit.

Good to hear some punk rock on this forum

any ideas about how to get that "big" sound?

the other guys are happy with how they sound but i think we can do much better. its hard to get time with the full band just "testing" gear when its hard enough to find time to jam. bah

thanks thou! :)

well do a scratch guitar with the drums &then do guitars and then do bass and vocals.

this actually sounds okay for a live recording though

its not really "live", but just about everything was recorded bass/guitar/drums together. lead guitar/vocals/etc we're added later. only having 2 tracks to work with is a bit limiting sometimes.

thanks for the comments!

I really liked Listen to Me - the acoustic guitar is well played.

thanks! i actually posted that song here a month or so ago, except at that time it had no bass guitar. the singer layed down the guitar track first take, no drums/tick/vocals. overall it turned out quite well we thought

the "quality" of that song is probably the best, it sounds pretty decent for the time we put into it. my bass playing on it is a bit odd, but nothing too aweful :)
