coupla questions about recording onto computer

hey
ive got a BR8 and ive been recording my band.
last time we did a demo we plugged the BR8 into the mic input on one of my mates computers and recorded it on cool edit pro.
i have a coupla problems.
when we were recording it on the comp it wouldnt let us turn it up very loud without the sound levels being too high for the program. which made the cd's we made too quiet. how can we get more volume?
is it cos im putting it thru the mic input?
do i need a soundcard with RCA?

by going into the mic input, you are taking a line level signal and trying to preamp it...thats why it wont let you go to high.....

go into the line input and you should get a much usable sound......

im not sure if there is a line in. i remember there being only one in . and it was the mic.
would it be a good idea to get a new sound card that had RCA?
are there sound cards for 50-100 $ that would do the job?
i also noticed that the sound of the songs was pretty crap compared to what it sounded like on the BR8.

...and probabl;y fall right off. Actually no, this is probably very wrong . Connecting RCA's to a SPDIF input. Ok yes, aren't SPDIF's digital? So that cannot be done? Obviously I have no clue about SPDIF! So I'll just move on. (Confused yet? )

You can get a wire that goes from RCA to 1/4 or 1/8 connector at radio shack. I really don't think that will impair your sound so its safe to do that, as most soundcards I have seen don't have RCA's. For a soundcard, I would say go for the Audiophile 24/96, by m-audio. I believe the retail is somewhere around 150$ (oops jsut noticed where you are from...those are US dollars), but I'm sure you could get a better deal second hand.
