I don't know what genre to put this one in -- it reminds me sort of country ... sort of Eagles, maybe?

I don't think it sounds country.

It's a good and clean mix. Only things that stand out to me are the vocals are a little on top and seem to jump out too much in the choruses, and, believe it or not I think the drums are too bombastic for the song. They sound huge and roomy like you have Bonham back there. Normally I'd say that's awesome, but for this song it might be a little much. Overall though, it's a good mix.

that's a great mix. What vocal mic are you using?

I think everything sounds great, with the exception of the clean electric guitar. It's a matter of taste I guess, but I never really liked that kind of Chorusey electric guitar sound (I kind of associate it with the 80s: you know those Pat Metheny and Bryan Ferry type sounds?) For me, all the other sounds are spot on, that guitar tone sounds kind of thin. I'm also not entirely convinced by the drum fill around 1.17. Sounds a bit messy.

But that's really good recording there.

You're a hard guy to disagree with because you're right too often. :)

The drums are in Session Drummer 3 and they are the Led Zepplin voicings ... I'll experiment with different settings and see if I can't find something more appropriate. I, too, believe I've got the bgvs a bit too "forceful" in the chorus -- and the lead vocal could drop back into the band a db or two and probably not suffer too much.

Thanks for your thoughts, G.

Thanks Milt! It is taste -- as I happen to like that sound for the git -- but I will look into the thin tone issue and see if I can't add a little more cream to the sound. Thanks for the comment!

Vocals and acoustic guitar sound great.

Agree about the drums being too big for the song. I think it's mostly the snare sound. But a bit of it comes from the programming too.

Maybe nudge the bass up a bit.

A bent guitar note is a little flat at 2:35. The word "will" right before that seems a little flat too.

Is there a little chorus on the clean guitar? Something like that on it that's a little weird sounding. Maybe just dry up that effect a bit.

Yeah, I think it does have a kind of country touch but not enough to completly classify it as country. But then who cares? It's a great song, Kev, with lots of feel and a great hookline, as with all your songs. I can hear what Greg meant about the drums. They do sound good, but this type of song might need another kind. But if you're happy with them, that's cool, they certainly don't spoil any of the quality of the tune. Nice listen!

Right. The drum sounds don't ruin the song and most people would probably never even think about what the drums sound like. As long as they hear drums, it's just drums. They just stood out to me as a guy that listens for stuff like that. They're certainly not bad, I just think they'd be more at home in a rock song.

This sounds real clean. I think the drums are definately too much, the fill that was mentioned is kinda blah! Maybe a hair more bass for me, just some more mids for a little clearer sound. Other than this, i think it is pretty solid. Background vox must have a slight chorus or something on them...they almost have an oscillating quality that is slightly distracting to me as well.

Want to know why I run songs through this board? Because what we do is so complicated, that working alone is impossible to get right when you're the only one who mostly listens ... until you put it in honest places that will at least give opinion on the up and up ... and reveal weaknesses that you might have suspected yourself, but really needed to hear others confirm some of what you might have thought, but would have let go had it not been otherwise mentioned.

I understand there are a lot of folks who lurk the boards who think "I'm not worthy of making comment." ... to which I can only reply, please make comment.

Nobody, no matter how much technical they get, understands everything while working in relative solitude. There will ALWAYS be some value found in ANY comment ... and I cannot overstate how much help boards like this have given me over the years --- by mere comment of the emperor has no clothes at times.

True cred and thanks, folks.

There was something that didn't fit right w/ me on this tune, and I couldn't quite identify it ... and now I know what that itch was.

Don't hold back ... because you help see.

Best,

Kev-

Edit: I thought there was a little bit taken off of the top end, but I was wrong I don't hear anything at all that makes me feel like this with another listen. This is a hell of a great mix and a really great tune.

You've posted this before haven't you? I like it.
