Counting before recording starts

When I used to have my Audigy, sonar would count in 4 beats before recording would start. I would be able to hear the count through my speakers. But ever since I switched to by AP 2496, I don't hear the counting anymore. What do I need to change in my setup?
 
Most likely your new sound card does not have midi capabilities. The metronome in Sonar 3 and earlier is midi-based and requires a midi device to generate the sound.

As a workaround you can create your own midi click track and route it to a DXi synth like the Edirol VSC.
 
my audiophile 2496 has midi in and outs but they are not hooked up to anything. Did the Audigy have some sort of built in sounds that helped it create the count in?

Yup. Most "gamer" cards do, while most "audio" cards do not.
