Could you guys critique this mix??

Overall I say it sounded OK. The bass was a bit muddy and lacked some definition, but that could have been the crappy computer speakers I have.

Loved the vocal harmony. I thought that was cool.

What did you record this to?

Recorded into Sonar:)

Do you get the feeling that the guitar gets lost, or does it 'fill up' the space pretty well? I can't really tell; guess I'm just burnt on this song right now.

Thanks.

Alex

No not really.

You've probably been listening too long. You need to give your ears a break for a day or two and come back to it.

Man, I'm dumb. I want you guys to listen to "Quarter Past Nine". I forgot there were other songs on the site. Thanks.

Guitar was border line too loud. Seemed too much "mid range" eq also. Vocals seemed loud enough but could use a little more tuning, especially on the background vocals. Perhaps a little verb could smooth them out. Overall though, a energetic, catchy song that will sound much better with booming actual drums.

It sounds pretty good. I know your looking for some criticism to improve the tone so I will try to give you some of my ideas.

The guitar sounded like there was one guitar track total. I would fatten it up abit with a second guitar track. The EQ on it sounds decent though.....maybe try adding some highs for clarity.

Are you using any compression? The vocals are kinda up and down as misterx said....and some reverb might help that out too.

The bass may need some compression.....it's there and then it's not. It also sounds like it doesn't have breathing room. Try EQing it to set it in it's home and brighten it up but cutting some of it's 'muddy' frequencies out.

The vocals sound like they are EQ'd good. With some fat drums in there, it will be a wicked mix. Good job. :) Greg.

Thanks man. I don't understand why the guitar sounds so thin...i recorded two takes and panned them hard. And you're right; it's exactly the tone I want minus some highs...I'll have to figure that one out.

Low cut (high pass) the guitars and it should make it clearer and should help the bass. The singing gets out of tune every now and then. Pretty good so far, though. Keep it up!

it all sounds a little muddy to me...but i'm sure thats just because you dont have perfect gear...

it'd rock to get some real drums in there, but nevertheless, turn down guitar or turn up drums.

vocals sound rockin - i like all the harmonies...except those few places where it sounds a little off.

i like the tune though - just that i'm big on real drums, i hate the sound of fake ones.

also - bass is a little iffy...get some high end on it.
