Everyone, i was told not to linein from my guitar amp (a yamaha home practice amp) to my computer soundcard when recording? is it true? that the voltage of the amp would spoilt my soundcard?

i was thinking if i could guitar > yamaha guitar amp > soundcard?

:)

I don't know about messing up your sound card, but it would probably not sound all that great...

If the amp in question has a line-level output (often labeled "Direct Out" or "Recording Out"), you can. But you can't use the normal amp output, the one that drives the amp speakers, or you will likely destroy your soundcard.

what if its only labelled as output?

Then read the manual and find out what type of output it is before you hook anything to it.

You can use the "Phone" jack without harming anything.
