I have a question about copyrighting a song that I have wrote.

How do I go about doing that? What are the steps and requirements?

Thanks.

it is my VERY loose understanding that an original work is already copywrite. You can register your copywrite at the Library of Congress to prove documentation should a problem arise.

Also, do a search on the forum because this has been covered in more legal and helpfull terms than I've offered.

If you wrote it, it's automatically copywrited, and you own the copywrite. It remains in effect 50 years after your death.

Proving you wrote it is a different story. You can register your copywrite w/ the Library of Congress.

For a song or musical composition, use form PA. For a sound recording, use form SR. I think there's, like, a $20 fee.

The forms are available at the Library of Congress website at http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/forms/

Hope this helps!
