Copyright Question

I recorded a band a band live and gave each of the members of the band a copy of the recording. We did pay performance royalties, but didn't pay any for a mechanical license for selling the CD because we have no intention of selling the CD.

Does this violate any copyright laws even though I'm not selling the CD to band?

Probably. But a few CD's to the band who paid royalties on the live performance.... ain't no one gonna come after you for that. Don't even worry about it.

Technical foul, but a copyright owner would be insane to try and harass someone for this. It would go viral on 'em. But is it a violation? As long as there still exist differences of opinion as to whether the stuff on my laptop playlist copied from CDs I bought at fifteen bucks apiece results in a violation, the answer is gonna be "probably yes."
