I am having a problem hooking up a compressor to my FD-4. I am using the insert jacks for channels 3 and 4. It appears to work because I am getting signal through it and see the changes on the LEDs as I make any knob adjustments. But, I cannot "hear" any changes. Am I not monitoring the signal properly to hear any changes or, perhaps, I have hooked it up improperly. I have single stereo to mono plugs for the inserts that I picked up at MARS just for this purpose.
Any help would be appreciated.
PS..I searched all the forums but, no luck
Thanks
Bruce

Well, everyone. I had the insert cords hooked up backwards. The stereo plug I had in the compressor instead of the insert on the recorder.....dumb, dumb, dumb.
Thanks
Bruce

Not so Dumb!!!

bbbmusic your not so dumb. I also own an FD-4 and did the same thing the first time I used my commpressor. I also have an FX hoohed up and after I got it hooked up right everything is working good. What kind of drive are you using? Their is where I have most of my trouble and I'm not alone. At the time of this post everything is working the way it should. It does a great job when it's working but when it's not it'll make ya nuts. Good luck. Donny!!!

I use an Orb drive and have been for about 6 months. I have never had any problem with and get allot of recording time on the 2.2 Gig disk. Then I dumped anything I want to burn to a CD optically to my 'puter into Magix Studio G5. I couldn't be happier.
I have wondered if I should buy the Fostex VF-16. I have gone to Mars and checked it out but, it is a bit more than I need. With only myself recording all the music, more than 4 would be over-kill.
I also have an internal hard drive but, it is only 300+ meg and I had allot of problems with that sucker, not to mention very little recording time. But, with the Orb, it has been perfect.
What type or instruments do you record and what FXs do you use?

Thanks
Bruce

THE ORB!!!

bbbmusic, I also have an orb drive. I had to put a termanator on it to get it to format right. I have had missing parts of songs like big skips. I'm not the only one that's had that problem go back about 15 days or so on this thread and you will see what I mean. Do you ever have a problem reformating your disk? Donny!!!

Donny,

I hate to say it but, I have never had a problem with mine and I can reformat at will..............
I never had to terminate it either. The Orb doesn't require that if it is the only item in the SCSI chain. If you come across any other weird things, please let me know.
Later
Bruce

Right

bbbmusic, I didn't think the orb had to be terminated but I was having a hell of a time formating till I put one on. As soon as I put it on everything started working fine. Going to try to get my lead singer over here tommoro and give it a good workout. I'll let ya know how it works out. Later, Donny
