copper wire mesh panels as insulation things?

If wire mesh (copper or otherwise) would stop sound, why would amp manufactors use it for grill covers? It might make a nice cover for bass traps but it wont do much to decrease sound transmission.
 
It would be usefull as a Faraday cage but thats about it.
 
I had an afterthought, if you wrap your entire room with the stuff then attach it to a ground source it might work as a shield against radio or EM interference. I'm not sure about this but I am pretty certain it wont work for sound reduction.
 
Copper is expensive these days :eek: but it would keep cell phones from ringing :D

That sir, is a Faraday cage. Very nice for single pole pickup guitars to keep EMI/RFI out.
