Cool MIDI voices for Acid?

How do I play midi sounds in Acid 3.0?

-I have audiophile 2496 - with no onboard voices for midi

..so they talk about softsynths and dls files that I should use.

could anyone please describe in detail how that works:

1 what softsynth would be good?
2 is there any good ones that are free for download?
3 where can I download dls files?
4 when I have installed the softsynth will the sounds automaticly pop up in the preferences for the midi clip i have recorded or how does it work?

acid 4 comes with a usable softsynth...or you can choose VST instruments, many of these are free on the web.
