Cool Edit Pro or Sonar?

Obviously I want to make the best quality recording possable, so... I already have Sonar, but I was listening to my friends stuff on Cool Edit pro, and it just sounded better. I know that recording techniques come in to play, but if you did a shoot-out between the two... Which program would you like, which do you think I can get the best quality recording from? Thanks!

NEI, not enough information. If you want to record MIDI, use Nuendo, if not use cool edit pro.

Shit, that's what I meant, Sonar. Though Nuendo would work too I believe.

Cool Edit Pro is great if you don't record MIDI, otherwise look for something else.

Cakewalk, Logic, Nuendo, Pro Tools, Sonar, SAW, ect..

If you don't need MIDI, you might also look into Vegas Video (don't let the "Video" in the name throw you... it does audio too). I've been a pretty happy for a while with Vegas Pro for audio only stuff.

Yeah! Without MIDI needs I'd definately go with Vegas Pro. It's a steal right now at $199. Vegas kicks serious butt and it's easy to use at a basic level with lots to learn.

Im not sure how CEP 2 is but sonar has it all over CEP1 in any term that I can think of besides scientific filter and convolution capturing

Personally: CEP. Very easy to learn. But midi is elementary.

If you don't need midi, Samplitude comes also into the field. If it wasn't for its price I would use it.

Nuendo has less funciontality than Cubase as far as MIDI is concerned. It was reviewed in Keyboard Magazine earlier this year and is quite lacking when it comes to MIDI.

Thanks for the replys. I was flipping through the channels on tv when I posted and I saw somone using Cool Edit Pro. It was Christina Agulera recording her new album (I don't like her at all) but anyway, would you see sonar in a major recording session? Is sonar up to that level? Thanks

1. Better MIDI than Nuendo 1.6
2. Sounds as good, or even better than Nuendo 1.6
3. Half the price of Nuendo 1.6

Nuendo 2 due in December may change it all, though ...(except for the price)

sonar...

if you are going on what you see and who uses it(which i don't), i can site the example that old Ray Charles recordings were cleaned up- clicks, dropouts, noise, etc. using cakewalk sonar. Ray Charles actually tracked new music to sonar in addition to just using it for cleaning up. It is a very user friendly and powerful program, at least to me. The only thing i don't like is lack of pencil tool in my version.. but just get wavelab or something... i know two people that work at a post house who use pro tools all day long for adding sound to movies, doing voice-overs, and they go home to their little set ups and use sonar.. they say they're all the same except some plug ins.. i'd go with sonar.. as your recording technique and demand evolve, it will be right there with you....
