is anyone still using that? I always liked it. I had a cracked copy, and my basically do-gooding ways caused me to destroy it. it's just not right to bootleg stuff.

it was loaded on the PC, but that is now in the landfill as well.

is there any way of buying a new or used CD of the original cool edit pro 1.2?
a legal morally correct way?

thanks!

Bill

You could probably get one on ebay...but why would you want cep 1.2 when you can buy an upgraded version?

1.2 is good software, but my experience is that 2.1 is superior when it comes to mixing.

I haven't tried Audition 1.5 enough to know how much better it is than Cool 2.1, but from the reports and descriptions I'm reading of AA 2.0 I'm thinking that if you're going to spend money on software, that would be the way to go.

good question

I just assumed that I could buy older stuff for less money. I have been peeking at AA2.0 and it is around 300 clams just about everywhere.

I have many friends who are midi freaks and swear by cubase/nuendo etc...

I hate midi, and will never use it. does the new adobe audition have midi capability now?

thanks for your post, btw :)

reckon it's the stuff ay? well, I guess there's only one way to find out.

go deep deep in debt with all the new pc parts I need to join the 20th century...I mean the 21st century, I may as well spring for some $300.00 software.

I downloaded that audacity to see what it's like... I think it's worth the price at least. maybe not quite :)

Auditon, not Audacity. You had the audacity to download Audition.

I've been getting decent mixes out of Cool Edit 2.1. I don't *need* Audition, but it would make life easier, more fun and more interesting. Is it worth my money? I dunno. I'm trying to answer that question myself these days - for me, it's the price of an upgrade - so I'm wondering if the investment would be worth it in terms of ease of use and fun and useful features. For you, it would be the full price, so it's a more difficult decision. But if you get the new one, you'll probably be happy with that for the rest of your life. Or for the next five years, anyway. ;) If you do a lot of recording, good software's a necessity.

actually, I had the audacity to think a freeware program would work.

I would like the new adobe audition. I am in a serious study mode. I am NOT a midi guy in any sense of the word. I can't figure from reading specs if adobe wasted nary a second adding or improving midi feastures.

I want multitracking and simple mixing, and don't plan to do a lot of editing.
I'd rather just play or sing the part again like in the old days :)

Audition doesn't do MIDI. When I got my Mackie Control I had to find other software to download the firmware upgrade, which is in the form of a MIDI file. I'm with you: I don't do MIDI, either. I'd rather Adobe took care of the audio business and let someone else worry about MIDI.

Audition is great for recording, editing, and mixing. Once you learn your way around it, it's fast and intuitive. There's some complaining about the latest (2.0) but it's because Adobe did a major rewrite, which has led to some work flow conventions being discarded. I've used the program since Cool Edit Pro 1.2, and now have AA 2.0, and I see no need to ever change.

No need to change from the whole series, or no need to change from AA 2.0?

I don't do MIDI either. Should we get some teeshirts done up? :D

AA2.0 aka Adobe Audition 2.0? is that THE newsest version?

yeah, some tee shirts would be cool, no pun intended. bolo shirts are better for me personally, but likely not cost effecting in bulk with customized printing :)

Yes: just came out around the beginning of February. It doesn't do MIDI either, but it allows to write volume/pan envelopes from a control surface. It's getting closer and closer to acting like analog gear.;)

How do you do that thing with a control surface? You still have to click and zoom with the mouse to find the point where you want to start to draw the envelope, right?
