what is the best mic for use with cool edit 2.0 pro to record electric and acoustic guitars?
thanks

Don't know what CEP got to do with that. The mic is related to the source, not the recording medium. So any mic that is good for guitar will do.

ive been told it needs to work well with my computer, which mic will do that?

Whoever told you that is an idiot. Mics work better with some mic preamps than others, and audio interfaces work better with some computer hardware than others, but mics have nothing to do with computers. A computer just records the signals that are sent to it, it doesn't care what mic you're using.

i would get the most expensive mic that the salesmen at guitarcenter/musiciansfriend said was meant for digital recording.

^that was sarcasm. ^

does anyone else find it offensive that they actually try to sell mics that way? I remember reading in musians friend one time that this real cheap (basically radio shack mic) mic was "designed" to work best in the digital home recording environment.......... i don't know how it was worded, but something similar to that.

Man i hate monkeysfriend.........most of the time you don't get any better a deal than you would have gotten at your local music store. I don't know what keeps that place open. I realise that if you are in one of the states that doesn't have a musiciansfriend or guitarcenter then you don't have to pay tax. I dunno maybe it's cause i live in washington and we have to pay tax because we have both a musiansfriend store and guitarcenters are all over the place.

i prefer to know and have a relationship with the company that i'm supporting. most stores will match monkeysfriend prices...including what you would pay in shipping and tax of course...........

plus what about all that wasted shipping and handling if you get something that you decide you don't want.........what if you had to return a guitar 3 times before you got the one you liked? that's at least an extra hundred bucks just in shipping............if you were to go to your local music store you would not only have whatever you were looking for the day you were looking for it, but you would know that that is the one you want because you got to check it out before any money exchanged hands..........

i dunno music gear and mail order, especially monkeysfriend doesn't make any sense to me.........but then again neither does buying shoes mail order, but people do that also............

i guess i'm rambling and i probably have a lot of unfinished thoughts up there......so i'm sorry guys.

i agree with gidge though..........a 57 or 58 and a pre

I'd use a condenser for acoustic, but a 57 or 58 is good for electric.

ok thanks guys
ill look into the 57 and 58, what preamp would u recommend

depends on your budget.....

Delta Audio Buddy goes for $79 (2 channels)

Studio Projects VTB-1 is supposed to have a price drop to ~ $130 in a few weeks

Delta DMP3 is $189 (2 channels)
