Converting cardioid SDC to omni?

Could you just convert a cardioid to omni by blocking the slots in capsule by some tape? Anyone tried?

I tried it once, it sorta works. I have a pair of KSM141s that are switchable and they essentially use that principle.

Blocking the ports

The diaphragm resonance is different for omni and card. mics.

It works, but you will lose some freq. response. because the diaphragm resonance is too tight. Or so I read.

Leave it to Neumann to solve that problem.
