can i get some help with what ad converters do and how good ones differ from bad ones.
 
Price..

Good ones $3000 to $6000

Bad ones $69.95 or so.

The number the ones in between are the ones most of us use. Its depends on what your doing, how many channels, bit depth and sampling rates, internally clocked or not. If you can be more specific to what your using them for I might be able to be more specific. The price ranges are far too vast for a simple cost question, More info please?

They convert analog audio into ones and zeros (digital audio) and vise versa.
 
so basically if you want to record a song in analog form a really good converter will make the sound much clearer and better?
 
a good converter will make the sound, sound more like the source...so u pretty much got the idea

NO - If you want to record a song in DIGITAL form, a really good converter will make the sound much clearer and better (than a cheap converter will). If you're recording in analog, no converters are involved.

I think it's important to note that good converters don't make anything sound "better", a good converter will simply make things sound "less bad."

The process of digitizing audio degrades the audio, no matter how good your converters are. Better converters do less damage, thus what comes out sounds closer to what went in than with cheaper converters.

With a converter, the less it's heard, the better. This is in direct contrast to the selection of most other audio gear.

thanx i think ill hold off a couple years and buy a really nice one when i start up my pro studio.
