I did this to show the difference between good external converters and good soundcard converters.
THe converters being compared are Lucid ad9624 and M-audio Delta 1010. I used each piece's internal clock for the testing.
I matched the volumes then recorded out the roland jv1010 sound module mono, on the left output in both cases. There has been no processing on the file and it is 24 bit/44.1. File size is 5megs I did not even raise the volume.
I also put an mp3 file for those who dont have access to 24 bit soundcards. THe mp3 file is 16 bit 44.1 128kbs mono.
I recorded bass, piano, guitar, horns and drums.
To listen to the wav, you have to download it and remove the .mp3 at the end. The file name is converter.wav.mp3(nowhere would not let me put it up as a wav.the title is
converter test

The mp3 can be played direct below

both samples are contained in one file. I have not told you which one is which, I would like to know if you guys can hear a difference or if the delta 1010 stands up to the lucid(I can hear a difference)
So tell me which one you think is the better recording and tell me, on a scale of 1-10, how much better you think it is, considering that it cost an extra $800
peace
next week I will be comparing the delta 1010 ,lucid ad9624, and lucid genx-6 clocks
ps.
If you open the file in an audio editor, you will notice that one recording has switched phase or something .You might want to mess around with this to see if it changes anything
Also, listening on headphones might make things a little easier to judge.
