does anyone know of a good software program that can 'reconvert' .mp3 files back to .wav?

any free programs that will do it?

thanks for the reply. do you know of any free programs that will do it? i cannot figure out how to do it in wavelab. (if it's even an option. i cannot locate that in my manual) thanks!!!!!

yes!

I use winamp!!! for MP3 to Wav.
I use music match!!! to turn wavs to MP3.
both have free versions that do fine for me.

Open your MP3 then go to "save as" and the drop down window that has the file types (it should have MP3 listed as that's what you opened) select wave and hit save.

in wavelab?

not to sound too ignorant, but when you say load in the file...are you speaking of wavelab? that's the only real editing software that i have right now. doh! i'll try the 'goldwave' link. THANK YOU!! :)

Wavelab will do it as Track Rat said -

Goto File/Open/Wave. In the open box select the drop down File Type and select MP3. Load in the MP3 and it will say decoding mp3 down on the left hand corner. Now goto File Save and select Wave and the file type and then save as a wave. :)

cheers
John

Of course you do realize the "quality" of the resultant wave file will still be ".mp3" grade.

The bits and bytes that were lost when it was encoded to .mp3 can not be recaptured.

He wants to know how to wave, we tell him how to wave. Say bye bye!:D

makin' waves

(why am i flashing back to the 80's? DOH!!! ha!)

okay, seriously . . .

thank you for the replies. for some reason i blazed right past that in my manual. i will give it a shot...and yes, i'm aware that the resultant wave file will be only as good as the mp3. too bad, but it'll have to do for now.

many thanks!!

hmm...

there's alwasy one of these guys that gtes mymind twisted.

Dachay how much does chaging a wav to an mP3 really effect teh quality??? and how does MP3 to WAV work to yuo. Does the quality go up since WAV is less compressed, I'd really liek to know...??? thanks!

WAV -> MP3 = lower quality

MP3 -> WAV = same quality

You can't really increase the quality of a lossy compressed format.

Sound Forge 5.0.. also it has a great mp3 converter too.

wavelab does, also

but there's yet-another price to pay for it. :( wavelab only allows 20 encodings TO .mp3 from .wav, unless you purchase their upgrade. otherwise, it allows unlimited conversions back FROM .mp3 to .wav

thanks for all the input! :)

thanks

i'll look into that, as well...especially when i run out of encoding-times in wavelab. ha! :)
