Controlling software with direct drive turntables?

I bought back a pair of direct drive turntables and a mixer that I sold to a buddy about a year or two ago.

When I went into Guitar Center to look for either a DJ controller or something like the Native Instruments Scratch Duo 2, the "Pro Audio Tech" guy in the DJ area, told me that I don't need anything like Scratch Duo 2.

He said that I could buy a control vinyl record, and that I would be able to control the software with just the vinyl and that I wouldn't need the Audio 6 or 10 interface.

I am not sure if this is right, so I was wondering if someone could tell me whats up?

I could see myself not needing them interfaces if I bought the American Audio VMS4, but with just my Line6 UX2, turntable setp and some cables, I don't think that is right.

I did some research and the turntables that I use to have were the Stanton STR8-60 or 50.

I am certain cause there the only two that had that circle divit in the corner, that you would put something like the dicer in. I don't remember having many buttons besides some by the play/stop or by the pitch control.

I know I barely used them, and apparently my friend has had them in his moms basement for over 2 years, cause he moved to an apartment about 3 years ago.

I am just wondering if these turntables are worth getting or not. I am positive they never got used more than 12 hours total, and have probably never left anywhere except when I brought them over from house
to his moms place, that is 3 block away.

Even if they were the St.100 or STR8-100's would they be worth getting, or should I just keep my money and buy the American Audio VMS4????

You need the Audio addon interface if you are using a standard soundcard, as most standard soundcards do not have more than 1 input and you would be unable to monitor the decks.
As an alternative to Audio 6 or 10 I purchased Intimidation Touch. Its very good for the price.

The audio/dj guy must of been saying that I could plug the turntables into the VMS4, then I would just need the vinyl, cause that makes a lot more sense, on account it has a built in sound card to do things of that nature.

If the turntables are truly belt drive, I don't know how much better they are going to be over the vms4. Not to mention if I get the vms4, if I would even want the turntables as an addon. Cause you know when you get on a expensive pair of turntables and you get that precise feel that is oh so good. Then you get on your cheap ass pair, and you start to realize all the small things, and then you soon find yourself hitting it's limitations.

Well I am not so sure that a 8 year style of a belt drive, is going to be much better than a current jog wheel on a close to the top of the line controller? The jog wheels won't be motorized, but I know they have a pretty good feel when scratching, they feel like your scratching with the platter with no vinyl on top.

I would have enough to buy something for $500, and I was going to get the Maschine, but then I thought of getting them tables back, but now I more leaning towards getting the VMS4 first.

I will be able to get everything cause I found a sales job that all the income is only for music equipment, and it is 12 hours a week, and I can make up to 18 an hour if I can average 2-3 sales an hour.

So it's more of choice on what I really want/need to get, and then what to get first.
