controller....usb or midi??

hey everyone, just a general question here. has anyone experienced any difference in performance when connecting your midi controller via usb or midi? i have an edirol pcr-80 controller (which i love by the way) and i'm using a terratec phase 22 as an audio card (with midi in's/out's). i'm just curious if anyone has found it better, in regards to performance and delay, to go with usb or midi. thanks guys/girls.

You're connecting it via MIDI in either case. The question is whether the MIDI signal is being sent over USB or through a standard MIDI cable.

I haven't done any testing personally, but I don't think it really matters unless you are trying to send an inordinate amount of data through the USB port. For reliability, I would suggest using the AC adapter rather than powering it through the USB port.

MIDI itself is pretty slow. If you're only sending MIDI data, USB should be able to handle it fine.
