Hi,
My Control Room floor is going to be wooden(varnished).....Do I need to place absorbers on the whole ceiling to avoid echos or A MIX TREATMENT is okay?

I've decided to place 12sq foot Mid Freq. absorber,32sq foot High freq. absorber and 13 sq foot panel absorber on the Ceiling. Total Ceiling surface is appx. 130 sq. foot.

THE CEILING IS NOT AT ALL PARALLEL TO THE FLOOR.

The walls have WIDEBAND MODULES, SLAT RESONATORS
and PANEL ABSORBERS......do these serve the purpose?

Thanx in advance

Yes greyman - I'd put absorbers on the ceiling when you have a timber floor. Sounds like you have a nice room happenning :) Any pictures??

cheers
John

yes yes ... please post pictures ...
a studio from India! ... man I love the internet! :)

Thanks John and BigKahuna. I love internet too.
Yes I've been taking pictures regularly......I'll post them with in a couple of days.

John...... Do I need to treat the whole ceiling?
or the treatment I've already given is okay?

A couple of important questions...

There's only one studio in my setup....which will be used for recording vocals, music and drums etc. I've decided to put a few curved-pyramid shaped absorbers/diffusers
instead of a diffuser only. I'll also have variable panel absorbers. Will this work?

I'm not gonna FLUSH MOUNT my monitors because I afford GENELEC 1032 A only......later when I buy bigger ones I'll definately do that. There are going to be Wideband absorbers on the back of the Monitors to control OUT OF PHASE LOW FREQUENCIES. Do you approve it?

and DO WIDEBAND ABSORBERS(4'' -703 TYPE) absorbe MID and LOW properly?

Thanx
greyman

as I understand it 4" foam absorbs down to around 500 Hz and then tappers off quickly, but I'd stick it behind your monitors like you said. The pyramid diffusers should be fine and I assume the variable panel absorbers are the one 's I mention so you can deaden the room?? yes?? If so cool. :)

greyman it's nice to meet someone who's read my whole site ;)

cheers
john

Thanks for always being there John !!

Thanks for always being there John.....
Yes, the whole studio has been constructed on your guidelines. Just five months back I knew nothing about the acoustics......and here I am ,setting up my own studio.
I know I'll make mistakes.....but SURELY .....not the serious ones.

STUDIO GREYMAN is dedicated to JOHN SAYERS !!!!!!!!!!

cool! That's a good remark isn't it?

grey, don't forget one thing - when you build a room, put a nice wooden floor in - and then you think wow!, that's a whole lot of reflection, gotta do something about it.
Then you start adding furnature, consoles, racks etc. - effect of the reflective floor more than half gone.
Add the (huge) benefits of a "not straight" ceiling, which, I think, is the biggest blessing for any acoustic space..........

I think what I'm trying to say is -- you'll need ceiling treatment, but be careful with how much, don't overdo it. And, especially with a sloping ceiling, positioning of absorbsion and diffusion materials is pretty importand.
I always do pretty silly things, like playing music, stasnding on top of a ladder with my ear close to the ceiling, listening....... and sticking little post-it notes with remarks on certain places. Take your time to get it right!

Look ofrward to seeing your pics

Thanks geyman...I'd prefer you dedicate it to Homerecording .com though :D

cheers
John

Yes Homerecording.com is the best thing ever happened to the music world.
But.....STUDIO GREYMAN is dedicated to one of those GREATS ....who have made this place BEST IN THE WORLD.

yep sjoko2, I must not over do it . My control room ceiling is really slopy(slopes all around the room......actually FLOOR is the only smooth n' straight surface in my control room) that's why I'm taking so much care while treating it.
Thanks a lot for ur kind suggestion.

I see someone's studio has a similar name to mine... Greys Studio.

Greyman, get John pictures of your studio and we'll get you up on our studio site. Have you been there? You really have to check it out if you havn't.

John and I started it about 6 months ago, maybe a little longer. It's filled with great home studios. And the REALLY cool part is, there are TWO studios from Wisconsin!! :) Mine and Snapper.

Hey Snapper, where in Wisconsin are you? I'm just outside Madison.

Later,
-Brian

Yeah I've been there many times........I've checked out almost all the pictures. IT'S INDEED A COOL SITE.
I'm gonna send all my pictures to John sometime this weekend ........these were taken at different stages.
Hope u guys like 'm.

John Sayers, can you post a link to your site? Sounds pretty cool and I'd really like to check it out.

GREAT site guys...

Brian, your studio is lookin' awsome, can't wait to see it when it's finished.

All this looking at your studio pics and listening to you guys talk about your studios is really making me want to get started on one of my own :) and I'm sure on that site I'll learn everything I need to know about how to do it too (and what I don't find there I'll ask about here). And when I do decide to build myself a real studio (hopefully in the somewhat near future), I'll be sure to send in the pics.

Keep up the good work

Thanks Tekker. I can't wait to see it when it's finished either! Unfortunately for the last 5 months I havn't been working on it, which is really depressing. I'm working full time and then taking night school 4 days a week. So my time is pretty much taken up by that, then by the weekend I'm just so tired from the week that I don't feel like working on it. We'll probably start working on it again soon, I think we just needed a break. We worked 10 months straight, almost every day.

Truthfully I wish there was a site like the one John and I have going back when I was researching how to build my own studio. I couldn't find many pictures at all of studios actually being built. I just wanted to see some progressive pictures, showing the insides of the walls before the drywall went up. Just that would have helped. I'm really glad John and I started the studio site. It gives people a place to show off their pride and joy, and it gives people who want to get into building their own studio a place to go to learn a little bit about it.

Later,
-Brian

We are waiting for ur next update Brian.
My interior is quite similar to ur's.......
It's gonna take another 5-6 weeks.........that's it.
STUDIO GREYMAN is gonna be fully functional by the 2nd week of May.
Thanx

Oh don't rub it in my face :)

My studio is far from being complete. If I was able to put forth the time my studio deserves it would be done in 6 months. Unfortunately school sucks all my time. Just think if you had to suddenly take a year off the construction of your studio to finish your last year of schooling, and right when you were getting things seriously done in the studio. We're so close to being done with construction, yet so far away since we don't have time to build. Oh well, I guess that's just life.
