OK so I've just bought a Kenton Control Freak. I have a Presonus Firepod and an M Audio midi keyboard, previously I had the m-audio keyboard going into my laptop via USB and the Firepod's midi ports weren't being used. Obviously the Firepod was connected to my laptop by firewire.

I am using Sonar 5 and various soft synthesizers.

So I follow the instructions in the control freak manual, midi out of the control freak connected to midi in of the firepod, and the midi out of the control freak into my midi keyboard which I got an 9v adaptor for.

So why won't it work!? It's just not registering anything, i'm twiddling knobs, going through profiles, sonar doesn't do anything, nor do the soft synths. I've made sure 'Presonus Midi In' is selected in the midi options...

has anyone got any idea at all? I'm tearing my hair out! Even if you just went through how you would go about doing it, maybe it's something really simple that I'm forgetting.
Thanks in advance
Chris

Control freak is a MIDI controller

Actually the control freak is a midi controler as is the m-audio keyboard. Neither of them makes any sound and theriotically they should both be connected to MIDI in on the firepod, but since that usually is not applicable you would need a MIDI thru connector on either the keyboard or the control freak.

I don't expect either of these to have a midi thru, but I dunno.

You could get a seperate USB midi interface - then you have extra midi in plugs.

I knew it was a midi controller, even though I am rather naive as regards all things midi..the manual claims that the Midi Thru on the control freak should only be used if you're using an external sound module. However, I'm going to give it a go in the hope the manual is wrong...!

still no luck...anyone else got any ideas as to what i am doing wrong?!

Go back to plugging the MAudio keyboard in via USB. Then plug the Control Freak's midi out into the Firepods midi in.

The Control Freak and the MAudio keyboard share some functions, but should be addressed separately in your system.

With the setup above you should be able to select in software which controller addresses which device.
