Contrasting genres on album?

Im not sure if this thread belongs here, but I have a collection of songs i've been working on, 9 are folk but the last 3/4 i have recorded are random 6-10 minute long songs with electric guitar and industrial elements.
should i keep the 9 and work on few more folk songs and release them separately or put them all on the same release?
 
Different people are going to give you different replies and each reply will be down to the taste of the replier. Which may not help !
My own response is, yeah, stick it all on the same album. But then, I like diversity when it appears. Besides which, in this download age, the album as we have known it for the years spanning 1965 ~2005 isn't what it used to be. There are still loads of albums lovers but it appears things are heading back to the days when the single was the dominant medium, the only difference being that now, people select for themselves which single songs on an album they'll download.
 
What are your plans for this 'album'? Like Grim says, albums as we once knew them are almost a thing of the past.
 
While it is true that having all folk songs will keep the album consistent, if you like to do a variety of musical styles, I think it's a good idea to present that variety to the audience and be up front. See, if you put out an all-folk album, guess what kind of fans you're gonna develop and what they're gonna expect the next album to be? And then if you put out an electric/industrial type of style for the next album, you might lose your fans and they will be disappointed and wondering why you "changed." I think it's better to present a little bit of everything that you do so there are no surprises about what you stand for and who you sound like as an artist. I personally do all kinds of styles and would never want to be pigeonholed and known for only one kind. But only you know your "brand" and image as an artist. Make sure that's developed so once you know who you are as an artist, you'll be better able to make decisions like this because you'll have that foundation laid and will be doing everything in keeping with your brand. Just my opinion, and hope that helps!

Then there'd be little point in posting the question would there ? Obviously the OP would like to hear different sides to the argument to give them a pool from which they can make up their mind.
