I posted this in another section at homerecording but thought I'd try again in this section. I had a lawyer draw up a production agreement between myself(I'm a solo artist) and my producer. In regards to licensing of the masters for specific uses by a third party(including master use licenses for film), the producer's royalty is 10% of the net sums received by the artist in any such deal.
My question is, is this 10% of the net sums standard for a soundtrack deal, or licences to a third party? Is this 10% as standard as, say the 3% royalty on album sales? I've had feedback from another producer who thinks the 10% sounds a bit high.

To me it sounds like if you do a deal to release your music for a film score and you do a deal with the film company that they can use your music for an all up fee of $10,000 the producer is entitled to 10% of that deal i.e. $1,000.

Thanks for the replies John. I understand how much I would owe the producer on any soundrack deal-I was just wondering whether the 10% was a standard amount that producers typically get in their contracts-the same way the 3% royalty is standard for album sales.

Seems a high to me, but it all depends on the leverage this guy has. Established producers can get a lot.
