Good song,I really like your vocal style.
You have a cool voice.
Guitars sound very nice.

I liked the chord changes on this one, sweet.

The only thing I heard was the beginning harmonies were off a little.
The rest were very good.

Very well written,I enjoyed it.
Thanks,
Pete

loved it...dont change a thing......

the recording is great......you have a distinct style.......i think i may have thrown in some harmonic or percussive parts here and there to embellish and give it more movement....i think "mineral" did a good job of throwing some variations in there.....

all in all, great job.....

Good one dobro! The only thing i would change is maybe a fade out at the end, maybe not:) . Dont think i've heard any bass gtr in your other stuff...nice. My youngest daughter really digs your tunes..iv'e caught her more than once listening. Thanks...David

not bad.........everything seems to be in place.....my only slight complaint (and this would be nit-picking) would be in singing technique....the vocal track has an odd noise that is on and off through out the recording, not on the singing but a noise made between phrases (note the split second before the first continuous w/ no instruments)...it seems like the noise would be made unintentionally when preparing for the next line....particularaly towards the beginning there are a hand full of these that i would look into correcting...again, this is not major issue..............good job

Wow! Very beatlesque! You're a very talented songwriter!

I've heard this bass sound before, so I'm guessing it's what you like. Personally I think it sounds kinda phoney, but that may simply be subjective.

I love the instrumental vocals and the panning of them!

Another fantastic song. I think I've liked every song by you that I've heard thus far!

Very nice song Dobro.

Desert Dry as ever, which is cool but a bit of reverb wouldn't kill it.

That is the weirdest sounding bass guitar I've ever heard. If I didn't hear the fret buzz at 1:48 I'd swear it was a Casio. A more real sounding bass would really do the song justice, sounds more like a clav than a bass, which is odd. Is this really an electric bass? Maybe the odd sounding bass works better?

Love the chord progressions.

Liked the song very much, great!

Very nice. Kind of reminds me of some of Lennon's solo stuff. I like the sparse production and I think your vocal style works well.

I love the change that comes in right about the 2:20 mark (vocal wise) ... makes for an interesting tune all around!

Great job!

Ho, hang on, it's one at a time in this forum, right?

muzeman - the opening harmonies aren't off, they just sound that way LOL

gidge - thanks for the balance. Percussive parts to give it more movement... hmm... (always a treat when someone hears something that you haven't begun to hear...) What did you hear?

David - that's good - but is your youngest a kid or a teenager? I'm pleased in either case, but I'd like to know. I teach kids (amongst others), and I'm interested in what effect the music has on different people, different ages, different this and that.

Thanks powderfinger, well noticed, but I'm leaving extraneous noises in. I'm just like that. :)

Slack, yeah of course it's that old bass sound - the bass on this one's about the same vintage as the bass on that tune you and I were working on. And yeah, it's subjective - it's just a different bass sound. I was raised on Phil Lesh. It's a very great pity his bass was turned down on later dead recordings. I'm not trying to emulate his early sound, but I'm thinking of him all along...

Emeric - thanks for the upper. It isn't desert dry, actually. More like southern Alberta. There's just enough reverb on it to keep it from being completely dry. I've changed earlier mixes which were completely dry based on your feedback. I decided that completely dry was an extreme, and since I don't subscribe to extrmes...

boyd - you've listened to my stuff before. I'm just baffled when people compare it to Beatles or Lennon. I trust it, but I'm baffled. Yeah, I was raised on those guys, and yeah I was moved by those guys, but I wouldn't have believed that they were cropping up in my music. I don't try to model myself on them at all. I'm pleased, though. I don't mind it one bit if that's how my music comes out. They were ace.

Im just looking for little percussion parts (shakers, tamnb) or little harmony lines (guitar, keys) to come in and out and give it some dynamic movement......

like i said, thats what "I" would have done.....you definitely have a style, and it works as is.......

What do you expect from a carpenter with one good ear and a big mouth!:D :D

I just wanted to add,I love the "Real" quality of your music.
Very unhyped and natural, tough to do!

Pete

Who's going around rating these threads? That's kinda mean in this forum.

Oh, and Dobro I just listened to your finished version of Brothers and I must say that I think you did it much more justice than what I was doing with those guitar parts! I regret falling asleep on you but I am very impressed with how nicely it turned out!

Is that "lip smacking" noise? Well, if it is, it's appropriate, b/c this is just lip smacking good. That bass almost sounds like a low piano at times.

As with all of your songs, I don't really know what you're singing about in a strict literal fashion, but the tune's very interesting anyway...and subject to multiple interpretations I think, which is good.

Wells and radios forever!!

nice... very beatlesque. I really liked the bass.. it totall fit.

I'm so envious of your nylong tracks. I'm having all kinds of probs getting a good nylong take.

The vocals were awesome. So creative... I"m gonna keep this one on the playlist.

"If" I were producing, I would have edited out the breath and smacking just before the singing started at the very beginning, and stereo-ized the bass for headphone geeks. ..and maybe spread the bg vocals a little wider too. Otherwise, ....... it's there.

Cool, nice sparse mix that really goes. I liked the rythym of it and your voice is perfectly understated for this style. I liked it alot.

like i said about your last one....good and fun sounding. I`d enjoy if there were 3 or more of you live. It would be an upbeat and good presentation in any show. Im not an experienced recording mixer but it sounds pretty darned good to me.

Slack - thanks again. The reason I went for the flutes on that track was because I would have been so dissatisfied with any guitar work of my own after hearing what you did with your electric.

chris - cheers - I tend not to sing about anything in a strict literal fashion.

jr - yeah, rockin' nylon - what a concept :D

mixmkr - thanks, good ideas. How do you 'stereoize' a bass track? You mean clone the track and pan it?

jake - it's sparse because that's all I know how to do. :D

toki - "I`d enjoy if there were 3 or more of you live. It would be an upbeat and good presentation in any show." Three or more of who live? There's only one of me most days.

....meaning, to do the the harmonies and stuff you did. It would make a great live presentation as well as on disk.

kudos...

a couple ways, I suppose. ..all probably actually ending up changing the sound of course. but...a mild stereo chorus, a nice stereo room reverb, EQ'd (carefully) splitting frequencies to opposite sides, doubling the part, doubling the part with a different sound and panning, delaying the part (couple milliseconds only) and pan two delayed parts opposite, the original down the middle. ....uh...I'm getting out on the end of the limb here and reaching......
