So what do some of you think of an amateur songwriting contest that states:

Submission of Song in the Contest constitutes a grant to Sponsor and its agents of a non-exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide, right and license to reproduce, publish, use, adapt, edit and/or modify such Song in any way for promotional purposes and/or advertising, in phonorecords or electronic media or any other media or device or by any other means, whether now known or later invented, without limitation, without further approval, and without payment.

MP3.com has the same kind of agreement......

If you load a song up there.....and one day it becomes a hit.....they can use it as much as they want to promote MP3.com....even if you delete your page....

I don't use MP3.com anymore......not because of that.....but this is a pretty standard kind of thing that I have seen on a few
"file-server" sites...I don't think it is a big deal.....ya know?

If they can only use it for promotional purposes than it's no biggie. If they are taking away your rights to sell or use it then that is a pretty shitty deal.

It sounds like they get aLL the rights to your song.

Send them something shitty. Save any really good stufff.

Maybe, I'm too skeptical.

this line right here says it all......

right and license to reproduce, publish
Basically they can use your song, and even publish it, thats scarey especially if it becomes a hit and they dont have to give you shit for it.
