You should hang out in the "Contemporary Devil Worship Music" thread. Two pages so far and not a whole lot of conflict.
Ya might be on to something.........

Big Kenny: "God Bless you, man."
in the context of your post THAT comes across as both condescending & a BIG put down.

Take this argument to the front door where it belongs.

I don't mean to sicken or offend anyone, if I have I am really sorry. I am not now nor have I ever tried to imply sureriority, quite the reverse. I think we all fall short of the mark.
Okay, let's move on to politics........

i'd rather move on to guitars.

Hate to revive this thread seeing that it's been through the ringer...but just had a few things to say about CC music. Actually I haven't been a big listener of late, but was back in the 80's.
As far as the music being profane, a band called David and the Giants took one song and played it in many different genres; traditional church, blues, rock, jazz, country, etc?, to show that the genre wasn't important, just the message.
I agree with Cephus that sometimes the words don't blend with the music, but sometimes that's okay depending on who you are trying to reach. If you are playing for Christians then it might not matter much. For reaching out to non-Christians it probably does get in the way of listening. But let's be fair, sometimes we listen to a song and the music is what hooks us and the band could be singing nursery rhymes and we would still listen. There are even bands I hate, but love some of their music, but would have a hard time listening because of their message.
I have heard bands that come right out and praised Jesus and it worked well. Listen to some older CC music; The Altar Boys (punkish), Resurrection Band (rock, and not every song had the name "Jesus" in it), David and the Giants, Geoff Moore and the Distance (pop-rock), etc. I loved these bands and others.
And how about Phil Keaggy, I just browsed through this thread so I might have missed someone mentioning him, but he does some great CC music and he is an awesome guitar player.
Oh and by the way, Larry Norman did do that song, Why Should the Devil Have all the Good Music. He always reminded me of the Winter bros.

Keeping your perspective.....

When being critical of contemprary (emergent) praise and worship it might help a guy to keep his perspective by remembering that at one point in history, any music with more than one note at a time was considered an abomination.

Setting up live sound in Church

Hi,

I am helping out with possibly re-doing the live sound set up in my church and we do the contemporary style worship with a praise band.

I am looking for some resources for setting up. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Church Sound is a free magazine thats pretty good. Google it. Hope you have better luck on this thread than other folks that were sincere. Read some of the posts in this thread and you will see what I mean. :(
