I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for
tightening up the mix, song arrangement,
recording technique (I have a little better
equipment since this was done)... Thanks!
 
Hello,

Great sense of humor....but were you having a hard time coming up with a lyric? The music seems serious but the lyric is anything but. Very nice music....good guitar work al la Queen sort of.

I believe the "tight" problem might be due to the drum machine. It sounds very mechanical and this is a tune that needs to breathe. I don't know what machine you are using but you might work on making it sound less repetitive.

is just quicktime musical instruments, and my
programming is pretty (utterly, really) repetitive... Maybe when I loop I should do some
editing on the loops to make them less mechanical.

ok, for some reason when I click the link I get an error... yet if I copy/paste the URL I get a page with nothing but a wedding picture (or so it appears.) That's cool and all, but I was wanting to hear the mp3. :D Or is that what Rusty meant when he said something about great sense of humor?

If I put the MP3 name at the end it always timesout.

Anyone else have problems getting this one?

Nevermind, I'm an idiot sometimes...

Got it downloaded; I like that guitar solo part. And I agree that those drums need some more variety. Maybe change up that rythym guitar part a little, as it tends to drone on and on a little too much for me. Probably changing the drum patters up, and maybe the bass moving around more would keep the guitar part from becoming like that. Lyrics gave me a laugh at least. :)

What's a spoonbread? This song made me want to go play a blues gig increadibly bad. Wanna jam sometime? I loved the solos. The lyrics were very cute. I only wish you had a drummer accesible to you to lay down a drum track for ya. You got anymore stuff?

I have heard people say that quicktime musical instruments are the worst drums in the world, but
I think it's my repetitive (dare I say lazy)
programming of them that's the main problem. I'm
thinking of getting the native instruments
battery product (works real well with pro-tools free).

Haven't tried frooty-loops, is that expensive? Does it provide everything to create drum tracks? If, so and I could sync it up to other midi tracks (so I use, for example, a synthesizer midi-programmed bass) that would rock. So far
I've been using protools free to do the midi programming of both drums and bass and it's laborious, to say the least, which partly explains
the boringness of the results.

Hey....check out PC Drummer before you make a choice. It's what I use. The Pro version is around $60 and with it you can download free sampled drum sounds from the internet ( many great ones from most of the machines on the market) and create your own drum kits.

I have used several drum machines and this program is by far the easiest and quickest, I'm lazy too. Actually it's so user friendly that it's made me more contientious about getting the drums just right. I've learned to break the created drum tracks into separate instruments to export to my multitrack software. In this way I can apply effects indivudually for a more realistic drum mix.

Check it out! For a songwriter who wants to spend most of his time composing this program is a jewel.

I have to say that its unique! Spoonbread??? And tears on my shirt. Quirky Good Fun! What did you use for recording guitar? I hear lots of static or noise in the mix, but it could be the low quality bit rate of the mp3 file.

It looks like PC drummer (correct me if I'm wrong)
only runs on a billy box, and I have a mac here.
I have tried a shareware program called virtual drummer on the mac, which can output midi files, but it has bugs galore when dealing with odd meters, enough to make it useless for my purposes.
Even if you do something simple like put a measure
of 2/4 in a 4/4 song it writes out bad midi. Thanks for the advice.
 
Opps....sorry yep I have a "Billy Box". I didn't even think about that when I advised. Well....surely there's a good drum program out there for Mac but I'd suggest trying the demo versions of whatever there is before you buy.
