Constructive criticism please

So I've done quite a bit of work on the song. I rewrote the lyrics, eqed the instruments and worked on the mix quite a bit. I still have a few major problems with it though.

-The vocals all need to be re recorded. I now have a pop filter so that will help :)

-The guitars are better but I wish they were all little "bigger" sounding.

-I also have had a lot of trouble eqing the bass. I tried some of the steps above but i couldn't get it to sound right. Right now, I have a lot of boosting going on for the bass which I know is not a good sign. Especially when I recorded the track DI.

-I've given the cd to a few people and they all say it is too quite. Anyone know of a good reference for how to make the mix louder?

-My last issue with the track is that when I turn it up loud, the clarity seems to drop a bit. It's almost like there is a wall of sound instead of each instrument having a specific place.

I have struggled with resolving all of the issues above except for the vocals which I will be able to resolve. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

That's actually a pretty good sound for DI. The vocals are good and the lead break at 1.55 is great. Song builds nicely in the intro, then the drums drop away at around 0.40 when they get covered by the guitars. Not sure what to suggest except that you can use compression on the individual tracks, as well as the 2-buss to increase apparent volume, and don't solo the guitars when you eq them

Thanks! I still have a ton to learn about the technical stuff so I apologize but what is a 2-buss?
 
Nice song, good performance. Drums sound very machanical. Guitars aren't chunky, and punchy enough...they sound almost phasey...something is off there. bass has no clarity and is in the back of the bus. Again great song, great voice, needs a better mix. This reminds me of Machine Head. Check your PM's i have a question for you.
