Access violation... hmmm, sounds like a corrupt file. Can you reload everything?

Totally suck, though. I feel for ya.

Like re-install Cubase? Crap man I guess I could try it - I wonder if it's a plug-in though? Maybe I will try some test running no plug-ins and see if it still happens... I sent the error to Steinberg support (like the error message suggests) but not sure how much support they actually give for LE versions :o

Just happened to me 2 weeks ago. I tried EVERYTHING! Well... everything except re-installing Windows. I switched DAWs.

Cubase is great, but I hate how buggy it is.

First isolate your plugins.

Take them all out of the vst directory (move them to another folder)
If the program fires up and runs there's your answer.

Move part of them back in small batches until it crashes again.
That narrows it down for you.

If the program crashes with no plugins then you have a program or registry problem.
Reinstall the program, clean the registry with a cleaner.

Any file on a computer can become corrupted at any time and 90% of computer solutions
is eliminating things in simple steps.

It seems to only be happening on one song which has a ton of tracks on it - but it uses the same plug-ins as most other songs I have.

I got a response form Steinberg: (I haven't done it yet cause I don't want to reset all my VST channels - which might very well be the problem :p )
Hello,

I would suggest trashing your application data to give Cubase LE4 a fresh start. First, please shut down Cubase. Then go to the Start menu, All Programs, Cubase LE4, Cubase LE4 Application Data Folder. In the top address bar, you should see “App Data (roaming) Steinberg” Click on Steinberg at the top. This will put you in the Steinberg app data folder. Trash any Cubase or Nuendo folder that you see here. This will trash your key commands, preferences, sound card settings, etc. It also should clear up the problem you are having. Restart Cubase. You will need to reset your audio outputs (Devices, Device Setup, VST Audio System).

Cubase LE is an OEM product. We are happy to provide support product activation and registration only. For further technical assistance, including using the software, support is provided by the manufacturer of the hardware you purchased. Please contact that manufacturer if you have any further questions. Thank you.

LE 4 is quite a buggy evaluation form of the actual Cubase. It's not a very stable build to begin with since it's just a freeware included with some sort of hardware bundle. I can tell you that from personal experience. Unless you upgrade to an actual Cubase product, the problems with probably persist.

I had the same exact issue as you have. First of all, computer specs would definitely be a plus in our case. As it seems to be a cpu issues.

Would seemed to have helped resolve my issue is having the actual projects themselves be saved into another harddrive, usually an external hard drive. Then having Cubase work off of your main hard drive.

I think the issue resides with the fact that your songs, as well as cubase itself, conflict with a lot of the "background" programs actively present while you work. Most of it being your system processes like SQL or other strange and confusing system maintenence programs. So it causes your files to become corrupt when it gets overloaded.
