i'm gonna build my own home studio, i have a tascam m-1600 console and i have my recording mic pluged up into it with the +48 on because the mic need it. should i get a joe meek preamp then run it into the mixer to the computer.... how should i set this up. it sounds fine but i want to know whill it sound better with a nice preamp...

go into the mp3 mixing clinic and look for my track, it's headed joe meek. you can hear the preamp there. i used a vc1.please give me feedback on the track too!

damn she sould real good. what all did you use to record...
how much does the preamp you use go for, that recording makes me want to go buy one for real. i'll use a tlm-103, akg solid tube, and a few other good recording mics

a vc1????? noooo?really?

c9, im about to start a recording session, soon as im out of it, ill reply with what i used

That would be a VC3Q for $99. :) The half rack unit.

LongWave just about had a heart attack...

The VC1's sweet - I got my hands on one for a weekend. Better sound than the VC6Q.

But if you got one for $99, then that's because it doesn't work. :D

what type of connections are on the vc3q?
right now i have my eyes set on the behringer ULTRAGAIN PRO MIC2200. i've heard they sound real good, if not i was gonna wait a save some money for a $500 preamp like a avalon, Presonus or joe meek.

I think it's the same as the VC6Q:

XLR mic in
1/4" instrument in
1/4' line in
1/4" insert
two 1/4" outs

i didn't want to buy more wires for the thing but for $99... i might. i have everything XLR right now. so i would need to get some more 1/4 wires..... i could do that....Guitar center some one said they are $99....is it like that at all guitar centers

Chris,

i really did go nuts when i saw that post. iwould have bout 5 of them if they were $99! im considering getting two vc1q's to use on overheads. ive got nothing but praise for the joe meek pre's.

I think the MIC2200 is of differennt color compare to joemeek... more transparent.... I have my eyes on them as well.... I think a pair of MIC2200 and joemeek will give one's modest home studio some great sound! :)

Aww.... Leeking...

ok these are the preamps i'm looking at:

dbx 286A Mic Pre
Joe Meek VC3Q Mic Pre
ART TPS Tube Mic Pre
Behringer ULTRAGAIN PRO MIC2200 mic pre

rate 1-4 for me please and i'll buy one of them this weekend

i'll be using a few different mics

1-Joe Meek
2 Art
3-DBX

never really played with the Behringer...if the pres on it are as good as the mixer preamps, id pass....

ok i have to call my 2 local Guitar centers and see if they have any more joe meeks...

with the joe meek, using a tlm103 and a few other mics will it sound better or worse going from XLR to 1/4?

we're using a delta 1010, should we run the mic to the preamp, to the delta 1010, or from the mic to the preamp to the mixer then the delta 1010

any one else?
how do you guys fell about the DBX 286?
i was told by a local producer out here it is the best pre to get for the price(i can get one for $100) sence it has 48v phantom power, 80Hz highpass, compressor, de-esser, enhancer, expander/gate.....

i think i'm gonna tell my partner(studio owner) about the joe meek and the DBX and see which he thinks would fit better overall in ther studio
