I'm now a senior in high school and am looking at colleges. Recording engineering is something I really want to pursue.

I applied to the Conservatory and got in, so now my question is what are your guys' thoughts on the school? Have you heard good/bad things? Will it help me?

Also does anyone have any comments on how going to somewhere like this would compare to going to a state university with a recording program?

Thanks,
T

I happen to live here in Phoenix and pass that place all the time. I haven't been inside, but from the outside it don't look like much. I don't doubt that it is a great school, but damn...for the money, the cost of lattending school out of state, and the career you have to look forward to....I wouldn't be to excited IMO.

And hey, it fucking hot out here in the summer. Better make sure your cars AC works if you have never had to use it. ;)

I know this thread is old, but it's kind of close to my heart so I felt compelled to reply.

I'm a graduate of The Conservatory and as a grad I think going to this school gives you the best shot you have at having a real career in audio. Let the naysayers talk about the gloom and doom in the industry; the truth is that a career in audio is not an easy thing to have and it takes a lot of hard work and a little luck to be successful. Going to CRAS doesn't guarantee you a job but it gives you training, experience, and a foot in the door with an internship. But in the end it's still up to you to make it happen.

There's tons of audio jobs out there. It's not just recording music. Think about radio, TV, commercial production, sound for movies, or video games. There's also corporate events, sound at sports stadiums, theaters, or vegas showrooms. You just have to be open and creative.

Is that the school where the professor take a student from his class out on the road with him at the end of the school year to work on major tours?
