Ahem. i dont know where to put this thread so my only option is to put this on newbie forum.

I have a pair of Alesis MOnitor passive. Im planning to buy a mixer. Do I need an AMP for the monitor after i run it from the mixer or Can i just Connect my monitor directly from the mixers output or soundcards output without any AMP? IM running out of money

Passive Speakers require an amp. So unless you have a powered mixer, you will need an amp in between your mixer (or soundcard) and your speakers.

gordone is correct....now as for the sound card....your mixer will connect to the sound card input...your sound card outs go to the power amp ins. power amp ins go to the monitors. now if you want a fun toy to add on to that...buy the samson c-control....you can connect your sound card to it and from the c-control you can decide between 2 sets of monitors and headphones so you can select on the fly without having to turn off the power amp every time you start recording vocals and what not. there is also a samson servo 120 power amp on www.americanmusical.com that has a headphone out on it so you can swith between monitors and headphones that way. and it can be yours for the low low price of $189.99 the c-control is $99.99
