If I run my maudio dmp3 into the ¼" line in's on my mixer (behringer mx802a)
will I still be going through the mixer's pre's? I looked at the schematic for the mixer and it looks as if the line in's all may be going through the pre, But Im no electronics guy, so I'm not really sure.

If I am using the mixer pres, what is the point of the preamp? and,
How might I be able to get around those pres when using the maudio?

Yeah you will still be going through the pre's on the mixer, but being as how you are sending it a line level signal from the DMP3 .... you will have the gain knob on the mixer turned way down to where the pre's on the mixer aren't amplifying the signal any.
The point of using the DMP3 vs the Berry's pre's would be a matter of sound quality and personal preference (which pre's sound better for your application).
If you are only recording one to two channels at a time (no sub-mixing of multiple signals in the mixer), you could use the DMP3 alone.
Depending on what soundcard you have will dictate what type of cabling you will need to run from the balanced outs of the DMP3 to the inputs of your soundcard.

thanks crankz1, it that was very helpful!
but... just to clerify

is this common law, so to speak, when running preamps through mixers?

I agree, you dont want any gain comming from the board's pre's when you are using a stand alone pre, so yes that is a common law.
