I use to be in a band back in the 1980's as a bass guitarist.
Over the past 10 years I have been in and out of home music recrding but never really made a go of it.
Now a talent has developed. I intend to do something with it.
Over the years this is what equipmet I collected.
The thing is connecting it up.
I want to record audio using Sonar 5
Where do I begin?

First, get rid of the Creative Audigy sound card --- the Alesis will take it's place so find a USB port and plug it in. Be sure to install the driver CD that the Alesis came with after going to the control panel and uninstalling the Creative sound card.

Next, plug the midi out of your Novation controller into the midi in of the Alesis interface.

Then plug the midi out of the Alesis into the midi in of the Korg keyboard, then a midi cable out of the thru of the Korg to the midi in of the Zoom. Set the Zoom to external clock.

Plug the audio outputs of both the Korg and the Zoom into the Yamaha mixer and the mixer into whatever you're going to be using to monitor your setup.

Set the Behringer EQ aside for now --- you're going to have your hands full setting up the rest of the stuff and your mixer already has basic effects built in.

Welcome to the board and good luck!

Which output do I use?

I have put the Korg and Zoom to line 3 & 4 respectively. To get a signal in to Sonar 5 which output from the mixer do I use. Is it the St outs or the Group 1 & 2.
The line out of my computer is connected to line 1,2 using a 'Y' lead. Is this correct?

Use the stereo outputs from the mixer.

I don't understand the question.

Which line out are you talking about? If you need to use a 'Y' lead that's a bad sign because there's no call for any of them in my plan for your gear...

Your out signal should come through the Alesis - it's in/out.
You should've disalble the audigy card.
Your drum machine should be connected to 2 inputs or a stereo input at least.
Is the Alesis a MIDI or audio or combo input?
Is it just a 2 in 2 out?

You could do without protools but then you'd need to track the vocals on the MPC. The setup for that would be Triton midi out into one of the MPC midi ins and one of the MPC midi outs back to the Triton. Plug the stereo outputs of the Triton into the MPC.

Asuming that you will be using the MPC as the master sequencer, put the Triton's sequencer in 'external clock' or 'slave' mode.

Both the vocals and the turntable will need to be recorded to the MPC so there will be some cable shifting necessary. You will also need an RIAA preamp like this to bring your turntable into the system and a microphone preamp for whatever microphone you choose.

And tamojuan, it costs nothing to start your own thread and it makes the flow of question/reply much easier to follow...
