I have a Compaq Presario 7000 with a factory SoundBlaster soundcard. I also have a Phillips powered 5- speaker system connected to my sound card through the in/out ports of the sub-woofer. Iwant to connect my (newer) Sony turntable to the computer so I can upload LPs to the computer to burn CD archives. I have been told to use a preamplifier (PP1 by NAV) to connect the turntable.
My sub woofer has 4 speaker ports, an in port, a surrnd. port, (hooked to my sound card) and 2 other ports for connecting to an audio/video source.
If I hook the preamp and turntable to the soundcard, where do the speakers hook up? I want to configure so I can hear the music as I transfer songs to the computer.
Thank you, Keith

Forgive me if this is stupid

I'm not familiar with your exact equipment, but it shouldn't be hard to do... does your speaker stuff use/cover up the sound card input? (On SB I think it's a 1/8" stereo jack)

Plugging something *in* to the sound card shouldn't cause any problems with playing *out* of the speakers--two different jacks.

If the speaker stuff is physically in the way, perhaps you could try a cord between the card and the speaker connection?

Sorry if I'm not understanding your problem... does the subwoofer "in" go straight to the sound card in without interfering with the speakers?

How do you configure a preamp, turntable, and 5 spkr. to a computer?

Thank you for your reply:-)
The sound card on my computer has 3 ports for standard speaker jacks; green(out), blue(in) and pink (mic).
The sub- woofer panel has 9 ports:
4 ports for satellite speakers
1 port for the remote
1 input ( connected to sound card out)
1 input stereo( connected to sound card in)
1 input surround (not used)
1 input stereo(not used)
Both of the unused input ports( the manual says) are for additional audio-visual sound source. As far as I know, I have a two channel sound card, and the present hook up produces great stereo sound.
My main question is the set up? If I purchase a preamplifier for my turntable, would it go....turntable to preamp, speakers to preamp, then preamp to computer sound card???????
I'm trying to find out before I invest in a good preamp, if the preamp set-up will be compatible with my system, Presario 7000US. Otherwise I'd get a CD recorder and go that route, rather than take risks with a new computer. It's just that I have a lot of LPs and I'm facinated by the new programs they have that clean the LP'S snap , crackle, pop and burn CD's.
Technology is fun!!!!! Thank you very much, any help is appreciated...........Keith GemArtist11@ aol.com

Turntable>Pre-amp>LINE IN of soundcard.

LINE OUT of soundcard>speakers.

;)

Why do you have the OUT of the subwoofer going to the IN of the computer?

;):D:eek:

There is no need for you to go OUT of the subwoofer, then IN to the soundcard. :)

Thank you for the answer!!

Thanks for the great reply Spins, its' what I was looking for!!!!!
I guess its' analog thinking, assuming there has to be 2 connections for every component(speakers to soundcard).
Can anyone recccommend a good preamp that would do well with a Sony Stereo turntable Model PS-LX250H (99), and a Presario 7000US. Getplugged.com says the PP1 by NAV is good.
Appreciate any help.......thanks
K.
